Sree Glug organized Free & Open Source Drive 2.0 – 2026 at Sreenidhi Institute of Science and Technology on 13 August 2026, bringing together approximately 550–600 participants to explore Free and Open Source Software, digital freedom, privacy, security, and user control.

The drive focused on helping participants move beyond simply using software and understand the choices they have as digital users. Through interactive awareness sessions and hands-on activities, participants explored FOSS applications, de-Googling, Android privacy, ADB-based debloating, open-source contributions, and community-driven projects.

What We Explored

• Security & Privacy — Understanding digital security risks, permissions, trackers, telemetry, and data collection.
• De-Googling — Exploring open-source and privacy-conscious alternatives to commonly used Google services.
• Android Debloating with ADB — Hands-on introduction to identifying and disabling or removing unwanted applications.
• Free & Open Source Software — Discovering practical FOSS applications and understanding software freedom.
• Keep Android Open — Discussing Android's open-source foundations, user choice, and control.
• Open-Source Contributions — Introducing participants to repositories and Merge Requests through the everyday-opensource-alternatives project.
• Swecha Projects — Exploring community-driven projects and opportunities to participate in the FOSS ecosystem.
• Community & Q&A — Connecting participants with Sree Glug and discussing ways to continue learning and contributing.

Impact

The event provided practical exposure to FOSS and digital freedom, with around 300 participants trying FOSS applications, 325 exploring de-Googling concepts, and 120 participants engaging with Android debloating.

Around 120–130 participants expressed interest in joining the Sree Glug community and attending future activities, while approximately 140 participants showed interest in participating in future FOSS activities.

The drive introduced hundreds of students to privacy-conscious technologies, open-source contribution practices, community-driven projects, and the broader Free Software ecosystem.
